Anthony Grant (British politician)

Sir John Anthony Grant (born 29 May 1925) is a British Conservative politician.

Early life

He attended St Paul's School and Brasenose College, Oxford. He served in the Army from 1943-8 as a Captain in the Third Dragoon Guards (3rd Carabiniers). He became a solicitor in 1952.

Parliamentary career

Grant was Member of Parliament for Harrow Central from 1964 to 1983, then for Cambridgeshire South West from 1983 until he retired in 1997. He served as a junior Minister for Industrial Development and Trade in the Heath government of 1970 to 1974.

The Harrow Central constituency was abolished during boundary changes just before the 1983 general election. During this procedure, he competed unsuccessfully with Hugh Dykes, the sitting MP for Harrow East for the nomination for the much enlarged Harrow East constituency.

Personal life

He married Sonia Isobel and they had a son and daughter.
